A New Year's Eve album that opens at midnight

Everyone shoots all night, nobody sees a thing, and at midnight the whole evening develops at once.

Two phones: one counting down to a photo reveal with locked tiles, one showing the revealed party photos

New Year's Eve already has a countdown. Here is a way to give the photos one too.

The idea

Make one shared album for the party and seal it. Guests take as many photos as they like, but nobody can see any of them. When the clock reaches the time you chose, every photo from every phone appears at once.

It is the disposable camera feeling: you shoot without checking, you forget about it, and then the whole night arrives together.

Setting it up

  1. Create the album a day or two before and seal it.
  2. Pick the drop time. Midnight is the obvious choice. Five past gives the countdown photos time to land.
  3. Print the QR for the door and the drinks table.
  4. Tell people when they arrive: "Shoot what you like, it all opens at midnight."

Make the reveal a moment

  • Open the slideshow on the TV right after the drop, so the whole room watches the night play back.
  • Keep the album open afterwards. The 1 a.m. photos are often the best ones.

What to watch out for

  • Check the QR scans in the party lighting before anyone arrives.
  • Guests need the app on their phone to join, so send the invite link a day early to the people you know will be shooting.

In Fondays this is the Dark Room: seal the album, pick a drop time, and every guest's photos develop together. Hosting is free until 20 June 2027, and guests join free on iPhone or Android. Start your album.
